Tenby Beach, Bay and Town
Parking: An inexpensive multi-storey in the town is your only sensible option.
Pop in to:
Tenby itself; lots of narrow streets and quaint shops and cafes. Dogs on lead here!
Description: The town side of the beach is restricted for dogs in the summer season, but OK in the winter. In the summer, we dogs can avoid the restricted area of beach by heading along a promenade of hotels (see tall buildings and promenade in pictures), to drop down onto the sandy beach away from the main town area.
We dogs then have free run of the long bay without any restrictions, all through the summer season.
We can walk along the beach for an hour or so to stretch our legs. At the far end there is an area of tufty grass and sand-dunes, involving some climbing, and a peninsula we can scamper and chase around.
Plenty of coastal paths and seaside scenery.
Once we've walked to the end and explored the Peninsula, we'll hurry back to the town - chasing seagulls as we go. It's an hour or so along the bay each way.
We return to the streets of the town via the promenade of hotels. Here my owner can do a little sight-seeing and visit the gift shops and tea rooms. There are outside sitting areas so we don't need to be stuck in the car - we can keep our owner company walking on the lead.
Nice, tall 3 - 4 storey town houses painted different colours - none of your modern tower blocks in Tenby!
Tenby is a nice olde worlde seaside holiday town, all plastic buckets and spades and sandy beaches and sandcastles, which some people opt to stay in for a week's holiday. Great for the children! (Restricted for dogs in 'town area' of bay in summer).
Taken together the beach, long bay, peninsula at the end of the bay, and Tenby's town streets (not worth trying to drive in!) will give us plenty of exercise and interesting sights both running off the lead along the bay and on the lead within the town.
Our dog's day out will last 6 hours or so. Allow an hour or two to drive here, a long haul along the M4, but a worthwhile day out from the Castle if we all set off early enough. Best done in good sunny weather.
